January 5, 2022 (Tampa)- The Gasparilla Festival of the Arts (GFA) has finalized the 2022 class of its Emerging Artist Program. From more than 150 applications, this year’s juror, Jonathan Barnes, the Academic Department Chair of the Fine Arts/ Humanities department at the Clearwater Campus of St. Petersburg College selected the fifteen artists below for the program that has become a rite of passage for Tampa Bay Artists.
Sponsored by 2022 GFA Board President, Jamie Hirsch Jenkins in memory of her mother Eileen Hirsch, the Emerging Artist Program offers artists who are ready to kickstart their career the opportunity to present and sell their work to the more than 30,000 patrons who attend the festival each year.
GFA defines an emerging artist as one who makes less than 25% of their income from their art and has not participated in any major exhibitions. There is no age restriction. Each of the fifteen artists will be provided with a booth and a $250 stipend for supplies as well as mentoring from established Tampa Bay artists. The Gasparilla Festival of the Arts takes place in Julian B. Lane Park on March 6 & 5, 2022.
The juror will also choose the winner of the Eileen Hirsch Memorial Emerging Artist Award from among the EA class. The award includes a $1,500 cash prize and will be announced at the festival.
