Four distinguished art professionals were appointed to select the works included in the 50th Annual Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts. We thank them for their time and thoughtful consideration of each and every artist application.
Shannon Annis, USF Contemporary Art Museum Curator of the Collection/Exhibitions Manager
Shannon Annis is the Curator of the Collection/Exhibitions Manager at the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum. In addition to maintaining the collection, managing acquisitions and coordinating exhibitions, she has co-curated exhibitions and programming during the 12 years she has been part of the collaborative team at USFCAM. Since 2015, she has served on the Board of Directors of Tempus Projects, a nonprofit, artist run project space and art gallery in Seminole Heights. She holds master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received an M.A. in Art History from the University of South Florida.
Brittny Bevel , Education Curator Tampa Museum of Art
Brittny Bevel is the Education Curator at the Tampa Museum of Art. She has served in this role since 2015. As the Education Curator, she manages three docent training programs, oversees tour programs, and assists with the coordination of school and public programs, including student exhibitions, lectures, and gallery talks. Prior to coming to Tampa, Ms. Bevel served as the Museum School Coordinator at the El Paso Museum of Art in El Paso, TX where she managed school partnership and studio programs that focused on learning from Museum objects. She holds a Master of Art’s in Art and Design Education with a focus on Museum Education from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Northern Arizona University.
Leslie Curran, Owner ARTicles Art Gallery & Custom Framing
Leslie Curran has been a custom frame designer for over 30 years. A lifelong resident, Leslie has worked tirelessly to make a difference in St Petersburg. As a former City Council member of sixteen years, she has served as a downtown pioneer and business leader. She currently serves as President of the EDGE Business District Association and is a representative on the Central Avenue Council.
Rebecca Sexton Larson, Artist
Rebecca Sexton Larson is a Tampa based studio artist working with various photographic processes. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Fine Arts and a degree in Mass Communications. She was awarded Florida Individual Artist Fellowships in 1998, 2002, and 2008. In 2006, she received an Artist Enhancement Grant from the State of Florida and, in 2005, was commissioned by the City of Tampa to be Photographer Laureate for a year. Recently, Sexton Larson received a grant from the State of Florida to attend the recognized Creative Capital Professional Development Program that supports innovative artists across the country through funding, counsel, and career development services.
Sexton Larson has taught, curated, lectured and exhibited work internationally at various arts institutions and organizations. Sexton Larson’s photographs are in numerous major collections throughout the country, including the Polk Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts St. Pete, and the Tampa Museum of Art.
